WHAT ARE THE CORE VALUES OF POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT?

The PBS Process emphasizes the following core values in developing behavior support plans:

* Functional Behavioral Assessment
* Data-based decision making
* Person-Centered Planning and Values
* Contextual Fit
* Prevention of Challenging Behaviors
* Empirically Validated Intervention
* Building Capacity and Knowledge about Behavior
* Understanding What Causes and Maintains Behavior

WHAT TYPES OF PROBLEMS DOES PBS-NV ADDRESS?

Examples of challenging behaviors that may be addressed at the individual level include:

*Academic difficulties: learning, peer and teacher interactions, behaviors that are incompatible with academic success, increasing communication skills

*Work difficulties: learning new skills, co-worker and supervisor interactions, finding and maintaining meaningful employment

*Social skills: increasing positive interactions with family, peer groups and people in the community; decrease socially inappropriate behaviors

*Communication: Increase opportunities and develop more specific forms of communication so individuals can access more of their community

*Aggression and Property Destruction: mild to intense episodes

*Non-compliance: lack of follow through in home, school or work settings

*Self-injury: mild to moderate episodes

Examples of issues that may be addressed with School-wide Positive Behavior Supports:

*Behavior problems related to high detention, suspension and expulsion rates

*Truancy

*Tardiness

The PBS process and the intervention techniques utilized emphasize changes in behavior. They may or may not be effective for certain people, circumstances or situations. Therefore, all referrals made to PBS-NV are assessed on an individual case-by-case basis to determine if our services will be effective for the individual. We do the best we can to find supports for those individuals who may need more immediate treatment, intervention or care.

WHO CAN MAKE A REFERRAL? HOW DO I MAKE A REFERRAL?
